The Managerial Maze

o   job description

FUN box

The question you ask is: if the manager's perception of the outcome of an activity is FAVORABLE is he/she likely to do it? The answer is yes. If UNFAVORABLE, chances are he/she won't do it. And if neutral, then he/she might or might not do it.

The three cells where the manager's perception and the actual situation match (the three cells where the manager's perception is correct) are 1,1 (approach - doing what you should do), 2,2 (avoidance  - not doing what you should not do) and 3,3 (neutral - it doesn't matter if you do it or not).

The two cells where the manager's perception and the actual situation at odds (the two worst situations) are 1,2 (error of omission - not doing something you should do) and 2,1 (error of commission - doing something you should not do - worst scenario of all).

In cell 3,1 you are spinning your wheels (doing things you see as favorable when, in fact, they are neutral).

In cell 3,2 you are not doing something you would like to (not doing things you see as unfavorable when, in fact, they are neutral).

Two cells where things go right (cell 1,3) or wrong (2,3) purely by accident.
