EXTRA CREDIT
(All  Courses)

SHASTA COLLEGE CENTER FOR BUSINESS, MATHEMATICS AND TECHNOLOGY

John P. Cicero, Ph.D. - Instructor

Looking for extra credit??? You can earn up to 25 bonus points (points added on to one of your regular assignments). Notice the "up to . . . ." The assignment outlined below is not a "gimmie." Put in the work and get the credit. This assignment probably can't be done effectively at the last minute - you might want to get started right away!

If you "impress" me to boot, I'll throw in another 5 points. So, a little intellectual curiosity earns you up to 30 bonus points total. "Impress" is a totally subjective measure and the 5 additional points are given at the whim of the instructor.

You have until the last WEEK of the semester not including finals week to turn in your bonus assignment. No assignments accepted during finals week for Fall and Spring. For Summer and first-nine-week-sessions you have until the next-to-last-day of class. When you turn in your assignment you must make an appointment to meet with me to receive feedback on what you have done: no feedback, no credit. You earn a great deal of self-respect during the feedback session (no additional work required). I would prefer to meet with you "live and in person" even if you are taking the course on line. If that's not possible we will work something out. I am also available throughout the semester to assist you in this endeavor.

Here's what you have to do.

(1) Read the following book:

The Eyespell Experiment by John P. Cicero, Ph.D.

John P. Cicero, Ph.D.
The Eyespell Experiment: Eyespell, Earth, and the Emergence of Mystic Management
i-Universe - Writer's Showcase
c.2001
ISBN 0-595-17367-5

You can purchase a signed copy from your instructor ($16 incl. tax).

BUY IT ON LINE AT: http://www.iuniverse.com  or http://www.amazon.com (type in the word  Eyespell)
Your instructor usually has signed copies available at $16 including tax.

There is a new book forthcoming entitled The Mystic Manager.

(2) Select five (5) quotes from The Eyespell Experiment. Copy the quotations in full and put page number(s) in parenthesis. For each quote selected describe WHY it is significant enough to make your list of five quotations. Share as much as you like about the quotations, what you feel they mean, what the process was like in selecting those five concepts given the wide range to select from.

(3) The Eyespell Experiment may or may not appear related to the course you are taking (for example it may seem to have no relationship to CIS 1, Computer Literacy Workshop). Why do you think I selected this particular book? In what ways do you feel the book is relevant to the course you are taking? Say as much as you like.

(4) What have you learned from this experience? ONE PARAGRAPH ONLY!!!

Please word process all papers. Use the best writing skills at your command. Use your best mind and don't feel constrained by anything you already know or think is true. Don't forget to set up a feedback appointment when you turn your assignment in. The feedback session is the most significant thing we do this semester. By the way, you can always turn the assignment in early, just not late.
