Welcome to FrontPage I. There are a few items to consider before getting started. First of all, you will need FrontPage 2003 and Windows XP to take this course on line. FrontPage 2003 is the application software and Windows XP is the operating system (FrontPage is not part of the MS Office Suite - it must be purchased separately). I am unable to make accommodations for older or newer versions of the software. Also when you install FrontPage on your computer select the "complete" installation option.

To assure a place in the class you must officially register with Admissions and Records. Once you have done that please send me an e-mail confirming your registration. I use this confirmation to set you up in the class - without it I have no way of knowing who you are - so it's important to send me the confirmation as soon as possible. Send the confirmation to cis81@ciceros-pillar.com or through ANGEL mail (log on at http://lms.shastacollege.edu). Also, your e-mail address must contain any combination of your first name or initial and last name (i.e. jcicero@hotmail.com). I do not accept "funny, clever, coded . . ." e-mail addresses. If I don't recognize the name I don't open the mail (in order to protect against viruses and such).

The text for this semester is Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003: Introductory by Jessica Evans (ISBN 1-4239-0490-7). It's a Thompson Course Technology book. If you are purchasing a used book with the ISBN 0-619-27354-2 that will be okay (it is the Complete rather than Introductory edition and was used in previous semesters). The text is available through the Shasta College Bookstore and several on line book sellers.

Thompson Course Technology's web address is www.course.com. To complete the tutorials in the text you will need to download the student data files from the publisher's site. You can download the files to your hard drive or any other storage medium you choose (make sure there is enough memory). From the publisher's site select "Student Downloads" and type in the ISBN of the text where indicated. You will be directed to a page with information about your text - the student downloads are in a box in the upper left in relatively small print. A very specific set of instructions appear on the linked page - PRINT them, READ them, FOLLOW them and you should be able to download and access all of the data files you need.

Your first assignments will be due beginning in week 2.  Assignments are due on Wednesdays (except for the last week; the final project is due on Friday). This will give you plenty of time to purchase the text, download the files, read the materials assigned and generally figure out what's going on. My on line classes can be self-paced - you can complete assignments ahead of time.

I am looking forward to a productive classs.  During this class you will actually be publishing to the web. Once we get started you will be instructed to request a web address. You will be assigned a web using either my Mystic Management site or Words Ink site as a web server - http://www.mysticmanagement.com or http://www.words-ink.com.
