Welcome to Computer Literacy Workshop. There are a few items to consider before getting started. First of all, you will need Microsoft Office 2003 Professional and Windows XP to do your assignments from home. I am unable to make accommodations for older or newer versions of the software. All of the necessary software is available in the classroom and in the Math/Business Learning Center in Room 1102 (the Math Building).

The texts for this semester are Computers, Understanding Technology by Floyd Fuller and Brian Larson (ISBN #0-7638-2094-6) and Microsoft Office 2003, Brief Edition by Nita Rutkosky and Denise Seguin (ISBN #0-7638-2078-4). Both are EMC Paradigm Books. They are available through the Shasta College Bookstore and several on line book sellers.

Paradigm's web address is www.emcp.com. To complete the tutorials in the text you will need to download the student data files from the publisher's site or from the CD provided with the text. You can download the files to your hard drive or any other storage medium you choose (make sure there is enough memory).

From the publisher's site select "College | Resource Center." Select "Student" from the Resource Center. Several possible text selections will appear - you want "Computer Concepts" and "Marquee Series." Under both areas you want the first text listed (they correspond to your books). Finally you come to the "Lecture Hall," "Student Center," "Library," etc. Look around and prepare to be amazed at the resources available. As we go along we will be reading many of the items in the Lecture Hall for example.

Your first assignments will not be due before the beginning of Week 3. This will give you plenty of time to purchase the text, download the files, read the materials assigned and generally figure out what's going on. The software is new and the text is new as of Fall 2005.
